One year ago, Letty came to St. David’s. She was nonverbal, unable to tolerate loud noises, and afraid of any new experiences or people she didn't know. This made everyday life very difficult for her and for her family.
After Letty was diagnosed with Autism early in her life, her mom, Ana, found great support at St. David’s. One day, a staff member, Lulu Garcia, overheard Ana speaking Spanish in St. David's lobby and knew she wanted to make a connection. Lulu was able to share more
information with Ana about our culturally responsive Latino program and how it might benefit her child.
Since enrolling in this program and receiving speech and occupational therapy, Letty has blossomed. She went from being nonverbal to singing, and her fears have decreased. In true St. David’s fashion, we’ve also wrapped ourselves around Letty and her family, providing holistic support that helps address generational trauma that exists within Ana’s history that have impacted Letty.
The growth Letty has experienced at St. David’s made it possible for the whole family to enjoy this past holiday season together, opening the door for more connection and growth as she moves ahead.
