Advocate

Championing families. Driving change.

When systems meant to protect families falter, St. David’s stands up.

Since our earliest days in a church basement more than 60 years ago, St. David’s has been advocating for children and families—in our communities, with leaders in our cities and counties, and in the Minnesota State Legislature. In recent decades, this advocacy has led to many meaningful partnerships with like-minded communities, organizations, businesses, and leaders.

Our advocacy has led to many positive outcomes for Twin Cities’ children and community members. Recent successes include approval for the purchase of our new Headquarters at 1130 Nicollet Mall in downtown Minneapolis in 2024, and successful passing of “The Medicaid Rates Reform Proposal” in 2025. In fact, St. David’s has dedicated advocacy at the legislature every day—championing early intervention, protecting vital care for families, and working to make sure all our neighbors can live with dignity. More recently, given uncertainty around Medicaid, we have joined with our partners to ensure this essential program continues to provide children and families access to the care they need.

St. David’s Advocacy is:

Rooted in relationship.

We partner with communities, other agencies, with state, county, and city leaders, and with advocacy groups like AspireMN, Think Small, and the Minnesota Budget Project.

Personal, not partisan.

We build bridges to work across our differences for a society where every member can contribute to its success.

Principled.

We stay the course, guided by what we know is right for children and families–not by trends or politics.
