Speech-Language Therapy

Every child has something to say. We help them find the words.

Speech-Language Therapy at St. David’s is rooted in relationship and built on play. Therapists use evidence based therapeutic interventions including following the child’s lead to build trust, spark engagement, and support meaningful communication. Whether a child is working on first words, fluency, articulation, or expressive language, we meet them where they are and build from their strengths. Speech therapy is often woven into a broader therapeutic plan—especially when children are also receiving occupational or feeding therapy—so that support is integrated, consistent, and centered on the whole child.

What Speech-Language Therapy Can Support

Our speech-language pathologists help children strengthen the skills that connect them to the world: speaking, listening, understanding, and engaging with others. Depending on your child’s needs, therapy may support:

  • Communication and social interaction – building expressive and receptive language skills, from early gestures to conversation

  • Speech clarity and articulation – supporting how sounds are formed and understood

  • Language development and emergence – including support for children with delayed speech or limited vocabulary

  • Fluency and stuttering – helping children communicate with ease and confidence

  • Selective mutism and voice disorders – addressing challenges with speaking in certain settings or using the voice effectively

  • Motor planning and apraxia – supporting children who struggle with coordinating the movements needed for speech

  • Executive functioning and organization of language

  • Alternative and augmentative communication (AAC) – including the use of devices or tools to support expression
