For more than 60 years, St. David’s has built relationships that nurture the development of every child and family.
Vision
Our vision is to create a strong, healthy, vibrant society in which every member fully contributes to its success. From our roots in a church basement, to our presence today in 3 centers, 30 partner sites, and thousands of family homes, we are here to walk alongside families, no matter where their journey leads.
What a big year.
As 2024 began, our shared resolve to grow took root in powerful and visible ways. When the sale of 1130 Nicollet Mall was announced, we moved quickly—and we weren’t alone. With the generous support of the WEM Foundation, Otto Bremer Trust, and a number of our long-standing champions, coupled with the
resonance we heard from Minnesota legislators, leaders in Hennepin County and the City of Minneapolis, and key staff within the Office of Minnesota Management and Budget, together we took this bold step to increase access to the trajectory-changing care thousands of children in our community need.
These early partnerships—and the incredible support we’ve
continued to receive—affirm what we’ve long believed: This is a
movement. A community. A “we” committed to ensuring that every child and every family is met with exceptional care, compassion, and possibility.
Renovations began at our Minnetonka Center immediately
following the purchase of our new headquarters at 1130 Nicollet Mall, transforming more than 5,000 square feet of former administrative office space into occupational and speech therapy clinic rooms. Our continued growth at the Harley Hopkins Family Center reflects that same commitment: stepping forward, into the gap, on behalf of our most vulnerable neighbors.
So, when we look at the remarkable success of our fundraising efforts this year, we’re not only heartened by the resources coming together—we’re inspired by the collective will behind them. Our “we” is real. It’s strong. And it’s ready for wherever our shared journey leads.

More space to serve
As soon as we began finalizing our new 1130 Nicollet Headquarters, the St. David’s team sprang into action. Within a few short weeks, CEO Julie Sjordal’s own office had been renovated and transformed into a Speech Therapy clinic room. At the same time, the generous family of Luke, a participant in our Autism Day Treatment program, supported St. David’s staff by funding training for apraxia, a motor-speech diagnosis. Only weeks after Julie transitioned to her new office, Luke was busy having fun and working hard with his Speech Therapist Katie, playing games with his latest words: go, more, open, and of course, home.
Latino-Responsive Program
Inspired in part by one family’s journey, The Latino-Responsive Program has grown into a
community-rooted program now serving families across the metro area at our new Nicollet Mall Center.
Currently, the program includes two classrooms that support children with autism, some with traumatic early childhood experiences as well, in both Spanish and English. Each classroom adapts to the language needs and strengths of the children, many of whom speak only Spanish or come from multilingual households and have stronger communication skills in English. But the heart of the program lies beyond the classroom—through culturally sensitive community outreach and care coordination.
Our People
Spotlight on: Edwina Vah
When Edwina Vah joined St. David’s Center as a school social work intern, she brought with her not just professional dedication, but a powerful personal story. Born in Monrovia, Liberia, Edwina migrated to the U.S. at age eight after living in Côte d’Ivoire and Guinea. She now uses her background to create a sense of belonging for the children she supports. “I noticed the kids gravitated toward me more quickly,” she said. “When the person helping them looks like them, there’s a sense of safety. They know—this person gets it.” Today, Edwina has returned to join the St. David’s team as a staff member, helping us grow a workforce that reflects the diverse communities we serve. Her story is one of many that shows how investing in early-career professionals strengthens our mission—and builds connection, trust, and healing for every child and family.
Expanding our Reach
- Completed the first full year implementing ABC (Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-up) with parents with Severe and Persistent Mental Illness (SPMI).
- Completed the first two post-Master's training cohorts building skills in parent-child intervention.
- Increased total interns to 37; extended workforce pipeline to include our inaugural associate's degree intern from Dougherty College of Family Studies at St. Thomas University.
- Expanded partnerships with Osseo and Hopkins School Districts.
- Purchased 1130 Nicollet Mall and established a partnership with the YWCA Downtown Early Childhood Education Program.
- Engaged in master design planning process to renovate the building so that all 105,000 square feet are utilized.
- Began the first phase of renovation: safety measures plus two classrooms, two occupational therapy gyms, and two speech therapy rooms.
- Continued DEI&B strategies with successes in board and staff recruitment and leveraging the training platform to increase access to online individual and team learning opportunities.
- Hired the organization’s first data analyst to generate, harvest, and optimize the use of data for strategic decision-making.
- Improved security on the Minnetonka campus.

St. David's serves thousands of children and families across the Twin Cities metro and surrounding areas. Our reach spans Hennepin, Ramsey, Anoka, Carver, Dakota, Scott and Washington counties, and includes families from diverse racial, cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.
