An Appeal From Our CEO
The rise in I.C.E. activity has caused many families we serve—especially those in our Latino and East African Culturally Responsive Programs—to feel unsafe leaving their homes. The fear gripping so many has had serious mental health consequences, compounding challenges these families were already facing.
As the situation has intensified in recent weeks, our staff have stepped up with compassion, creativity, and determination. They have found countless ways to stand alongside those who are most affected, both preventing disruption in their services and in supporting them in their personal crises. I am profoundly proud of their work and the way they’ve shown up for families in these unprecedented times, providing:
- Temporary In-Home Therapeutic Services: To maintain continuity in children’s therapeutic services and identify and respond to evolving needs, we have rapidly adapted our model to these new circumstances, bringing all therapeutic services in-home for families who cannot leave and offering mental health services to parents experiencing increased anxiety and depression.
- Immediate Relief: Our staff are purchasing food; assembling and delivering mealpacks; picking up and delivering medications; helping families access other emergency assistance; providing transportation to appointments including our center-based services; assisting with DOPA forms, Power of Attorney letters, and other government applications; and helping families prepare for and understand legal counsel.
While our staff continue to adapt and provide essential clinical support, the sudden drop in attendance has created an immediate and significant funding gap in an already difficult year. I am asking that you support us as generously as you can through:
- Financial support: Your donation today will directly support in-home services or immediate relief, depending on the most immediate need.
- In-kind donations: We have put together a wishlist of other items our families are requesting: diapers, household supplies, and more. We ask that these items are dropped off at our Nicollet Center or delivered there with attention to Rapid Response (1130 Nicollet Center, Minneapolis, MN 55403).
- Join us at our gala: The Light the Way Gala on Saturday, March 7 is our biggest fundraiser of the year. Proceeds from the event will go directly to supporting these efforts and more. It is also a great opportunity to celebrate our community’s resilience. I hope to see you there.
Our mission has always been rooted in standing with families, especially in moments of uncertainty. With your partnership, we can continue to ensure that every child and caregiver feels supported, safe, and seen.
Thank you for being part of this community and for showing up when it matters most.
